Together, as human beings, we need to awaken to the current evolutionary potentials that are calling to us. At times it can feel like we are living on a very primitive planet where being separate, divisive and competitive is the norm. We’ve heard of the collective unconscious. It’s pretty obvious that our collective sense of being awake and connected is asleep. We function primarily as 7.7 billion egospheres or ego bubbles, immersed in our self-importance or self-concern with very little direct awareness of the larger field most of the time. The next big jump in evolution is for humanity to live from the collective conscious - a shared, unified field of sensitivity, cosmic intelligence and love.
There was a kind of collective awakening when 9/11 happened. We were inside a different quality of consciousness together for a few days before humanity returned to our usual sense of separateness. Intuitively we all know something more is possible, we know something saner and more beautiful is within our reach if we can only come together in the right way.
Clearly, the beauty and love we can share together, as human beings, can reach into the realms of the divine and change us forever. We cherish those moments and if we are lucky, we are in relationship with special others who can sustain that kind of love and connection for longer periods of time. Generally, we value these experiences for ourselves personally, but most of us don’t consider being connected in that way as culturally significant.
Many teachers, evolutionary thinkers and luminaries agree that in the past ten years or so an opening has occurred, an evolutionary readiness is here for humanity to begin to create a new way of being together, a higher order of human relatedness that will have far reaching impact on life as we know it.
For most of our human existence, humanity has been entirely unaware of evolution, in fact for thousands of years we assumed that we lived in a relatively static universe. Only recently have we been aware of how evolutionary processes create and sustain the universe. Evolution, so far, has happened without our conscious participation. It’s moved from non-life to life, from single cells to larger organisms, to the myriad of life forms and then to humans with self-reflective consciousness.
We now know that existence evolves through a process in which elements unite by sharing what is deepest within themselves. Subatomic particles unite to form atoms, atoms to molecules, molecules to form cells, cells unite to form organisms and so on. Each time something new is created that never existed before, something that is more complex and has more consciousness. Atoms share electrical energy and they become molecules. “Characteristic energy” is the energy that is shared for the unification to happen.
“The New Being emerges from the connections and interactions of the composing units, and it constitutes a new level of oneness and wholeness” says author Beatrice Bruteau. She believes that we are in a unique time in history where a transformation in human consciousness is the next evolutionary step for existence. Pierre Teilhard de Chardin, Jesuit priest, visionary and paleontologist, saw that when different elements come together, like cells or molecules, they exchange energy to form new wholes. As they do so, they bring into being creative unions. A creative union of that which has not existed before. Beautifully, simpler forms connecting and sharing energy bond into higher forms with more complexity and consciousness.
If evolution is still proceeding, and if the pattern still holds true, then it is our turn along with the whole of humanity to become the next creative union by uniting what is deepest in ourselves with one another, creating a higher form of collective being, a new humanity one with the earth and the cosmos.
Creative union always leads to new emergent properties that offer some evolutionary advantage to the universe. Creative union will not just happen for human beings. We need the willingness and interest to form deep synergistic relationships that will lead to new emerging properties for humanity. As we know, not every union is creative, some are entropic, moving in the opposite direction of what is possible.
The normal energy human beings share is what could be called egoic. This is the energy of being separate, competitive, self-concerned, selfish, protective, afraid, deceptive, deficient, aggressive or colored by various projections both positive and negative. We unconsciously and naturally exchange the energy that arises from our basic survival instincts for self-preservation, sexual and social connections.
There’s nothing wrong with our normal energetic exchange, but it will not open the doorway to creative union, the possibility of consciously exchanging on a higher level that creates a new being of a higher order. It may sound strange but why would we think that evolution wouldn’t include us. Our individuality has been developing for thousands of years and now we are being invited to come together, to discover what the characteristic energy is between human beings that awakens the collective transpersonal field and renders us as an awakened humanity at last.
The consciousness of an awakened humanity is crucial if we are to avoid global catastrophe. The problems of the world are issues that arise from our current level of consciousness, a consciousness of separation. Consider any problem and you will see that our human selfishness and self concern is at the core.
It’s time for some of us to move from our single-cell individuality and evolve into a coherent multicellular whole, where we move from survival and self concern to larger more fluid and connected consciousness, where we have an extended nervous system picking up different information on many more levels and dimensions. We exist inside a larger membrane sensitive to something greater coordinating and orchestrating us.
Our choice (conscious evolution) to give ourselves to collective or mutual awakening needs to be seen with the importance that it truly holds.
Increasing numbers of us are being drawn to consciously come together and share a different kind of energy. What is exciting is that I accidentally discovered in my relationship with Peter exactly what the characteristic energy is that human beings need for mutual awakening. For the last 13 years we have given people direct access to the level of bonding where the dawn of the new consciousness can be found together.
We are at the dawn of a new consciousness that can only be found together.

How to know if you are ready for this consciousness:
- You experience a certain kind of existential loneliness.
- You feel less inspired sometimes about working on yourself or doing spiritual practice alone.
- You experience wanting to be alone rather than be with people where the connection is more superficial, even though you don’t really want to be alone.
- You feel tired of whatever you’ve been engaged in regarding your spiritual development.
- You long for something and don't know what it is.
Deepening Exercise
Consider (either discuss with a friend or write in a journal) the following.
- A time when you’ve experienced that inexplicable oneness with another person. What was the experience? Are you aware of what allowed it to happen?
- What were you sharing that joined you together and created a new level of love, unity and connectedness?
- What is the characteristic energy that human beings need to share to become one?
